The meaning of life – #poetry #buddhism #buddhistpoetry

Most of us will die without trumpet or tear,
Relegated to grave or ash or hospital cart
Few will gift us a second thought once we depart
So why do we keep clinging on to all we hold dear

Letting go a little lends us some heart
Freeing us to see more of the clutter that stays near
Letting go some more removes our worst fears
Reinforcing the view that before death we should part

Dropping all pretense as the end draws near
We begin to see that the finish is a start
That the suffering and pain are two separate darts
And the meaning of life was there all along right here
